CHART is a Medical Malpractice insurer owned by thirty-eight community hospitals in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Our mission is to provide a stable and cost-effective source of medical professional liability insurance for our member hospitals and physicians.

Formed in 2002, CHART is now ranked #4 among all healthcare risk retention groups in the United States in terms of assets and surplus. (Source: National Association of Insurance Commissioners 2008 data)  Domiciled in the State of Vermont and regulated by the Vermont Department of Insurance and Banking, we are governed by a board of directors that includes twelve hospital executives. Our staff comprises experienced specialists in patient safety, underwriting and claims resolution.  Through our Patient Safety Organization, Chart Institute, we focus on enhancing patient safety and controlling medical errors and their associated costs.

As a regional carrier with documented success in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, CHART has recently expanded into New York and seeks new community hospitals with superior risk attributes in all three states.
